Need help getting slalom protections?
Ok so I've been skiing since I was three and my instructor is telling me that I absolutely need to get myself protections for slalom. I already have Leki trigger poles so I will probably get the full hand guards. the thing is I'm on quite a tight budget and I'm worried this is going to cost me a lot. Also I have a snowboard(?) helmet with no solid protection on the ears and I don't know if this means that I'll have to get a new helmet for the face bar (I know that some World cup skiers such as Julien Lizeroux and Matthias Hargin don't use one so is it essential?).
Well, first off you can't get full hand guards with leki poles, because you can't screw into the top of them; however, you can get the half guards which work just as well. If you need anything you need a helmet with the solid ears so you can put a face guard on it (you will see why the first time you take a gate with your face). Also, once you start to get good you will shin gates, so you will need shin guards. Racing is expensive when you first start off, but if you get the right gear and take care of it then it will last you a long time.
