Help on tuning my edges?

I got a dakine mini edge tuner in a kit and i don't know how to use it.I don't know if im supposed to use the plastic part of it and which side to use. here's what it looks like http://www.dakine.com/snowboard/accessories/tuning/mini-edge-tuner/

Any help is very appreciated!

Place the larger plastic surface down on the base of the board so that the file sits against the side of your edges. I believe that this tuner, like most, is only for side edges. You want to use a good amount of pressure and slide it all the way along the edge from one end of the effective edge to the other end. From nose to tail is best. To do this you will probably have to flip the file over. The file will probably have an arrow indicating the direction to slide it in but if not, you can tell by the angle of the teeth.

It wont take much to get the edges sharp, unless they are really bad. You should be able to shave a bit of fingernail off with a sharp edge. They should feel sharp when running your fingers perpendicular to the edge (From topsheet to base).

Also check the angle of the file. With this type of file you can often change the angle from 90 to 88 by turing something on the device. Sometimes you just need to turn the file block itself. So look into that. If you use it at 88 you're gonna have a very sharp and sensitive edge. If you use it at 90, it will be more forgiving and take a little more punishment. Sometimes these angles are also referred to as 0 instead of 90 and 2 instead of 88 etc.

When you are all done, detune your tips. You can round them right off if you want, but at least make sure they are not sharp. You could detune all the way back to about 1" into the beginning of the effective edge. This will give a slightly looser and more forgiving ride. Nobody likes catching their edge in the flats.

Hope this helped.
