Snowboard size question?
So I'm learning how to snowboard this year, and I got a burton board from a friend for free, it's pretty new, and in great condition. I'm 5'7" and about 120 lbs. and she's about the same. The board is 136 cm, or something close to that, and on the burton board finder it says my board should be like 149-151, is it bad that the board is a little short? Will it be more difficult for me to learn?
maybe she had tried park stuff, hence the shorter board. im 5'9" and had a burton 156. taught myself in 2 trips to seven springs. fell down so many times the first day i had people yellin at me from the chair lift to "go home"....
but later that night i was gettin the hang of it.
i was so soaked i got frozen to the chair lift late that night.
but back to you....
take your friends board. did she give ya bindings n boots?
2 choices...
either sell the board on ebay or craigslist and use the $ from the sale towards a good board for you....
....or.....
rent a snow board the first time or two. try a 149. two hours later try a 151. maybe try a 143 later that same day.........this way you'll have fresh wax all day too;)
shorter boards will turn a bunch quicker which is fine for tight park ridin. but if your wantin to fly down the hill like super girl then a longer board gives ya more stability.
read up on toe n heel overhangs on the internet as well before ya purchase.
stay warm. have fun.
and from experience....dont try to chase any cute boarders down the hill your first day on a board......or your liklyhood of catchin an edge at speed and eatin snow with your face for about a 10 yard face slide is the usual result.....which isnt cool.
