How hard is it to learn to do a jump on a snowboard?
This is my second year snowboarding. I've got it down pretty well. My carving is great and I can def go fast enough. I want to learn how to do jumps next.
Have any pointers on how to go about learning?
Or any tips? Thanks
Is mostly practice but you have to keep in mind three important basic rules:
1) Always leave the jump flat based, unless you are planning on rotation or aerials, but that will come in time. At the beginning stages make sure you are flat based this will give you a good posture in mid air.
2) Keep a little bit more weight on your front leg, lean forward, unless you are planning on a backflip or some sort of aerial/rotation. It's easier to stabilize your stance in mid air, now to mention that the body has a natural tendency of leaning back so even if you feel you are leaning forward in reality you might be just centered.
3) Never ollie/jump out of a...jump. They are called kickers, jumps, ramp, etc. and they are designed with one idea in mind, to send you flying. That being said, there is no reason to jump as you leave the kicker, unless you want to pull off something weird, if you want to go higher you will need more speed or a bigger feature.
Start small and progress to bigger features, this is particularly important if you ride on icy conditions.
