what type of snowboard should i get?
ive been renting snowboards for the past 3 years and now i want to get a board of my own. I am mostly riding in the park but some powder. I am 5'6 and 145 pounds. i was looking at the 2010 150 burton joystick. what do you guys think i should get?!? thanks a bunch!
Scot Adams, do you have any suggestions of boards?? thanks
I have been riding for 23 years and worked in a shop and this question is asked by nearly every kid out there. Listen.. There are three types of boards... no 4. 1. big mountain/powder boards - directional shape, 2. park boards - usually twin tip shape, 3, all mountain mildly directional shaped, and 4, slalom race boards. If you are just learning, then you should steer more towards a park or all mountain board. Burton owns several snowboard companies. There are literally only a handful of actual snowboard manufacturers in the world. A lot of companies go out with some cash and pay someone else to make the boards. So some of these so called popular companies are literally the same board construction as the one your friends all talk crap on.
Each of the 4 categories mentioned have different sizes, side cuts, shapes, etc. All perform well anymore. Some are designed for riding rails, some for jumps, some for both, at the end of the day I would say find a board that is soft / forgiving for newer riders, dont get a board made for one thing like riding rails only or only going fast. Get a good all around board. A lot of shops hire kids who only know rails these days and know nothing about the sport as a whole. go to a core shop where the employees know what they are talking about. for you 150-151 soft to medium flex with reverse camber.
