How reliable is BOA technology?
I'm wondering about buying snowboard boots with that lacing system.
I have a pair of K2 boots with the boa technology and I love them.
They are super easy and quick to tighten up, and they allow me to tight more if I need to, or to easily loosen up if my feet are hurting.
However, the pair that I have only has the single boa, so I am not in control of tightening in specific areas. To have that control, you'd need a boot with multiple boa, or else a boot with multiple tightening/lacing options.
I've had my boots for four years with no problems at all, but my spouse's boa boots had the boa break. You can buy replacement boas inexpensively, and fix the system.
So, I would say, it depends entirely on what you want more. If you want to be able to tighten down and loosen up the boots on the fly (it takes all of 2 seconds, really, to loosen them up before getting on the lift, my feet get much need circulation, and it takes 2 seconds to tighten them up again just before going down the slope) then boa is a good choice. If you need more control over specific areas to tighten on your boots, then you are going to want to go with a more traditional lacing system.
