Ski I should buy for Northeast skiing?
I am 67 and feel comfortable on intermediate slopes. Aggressive skiing is behind me. Live in the Northeast where skiing is boilerplate and glaze. One website suggests Elan Magfire, Elan 78TI or Rossignol Bandit B3. Other websites feel these skis are for an expert skier. Can you suggest which may be the best for me for skiing in the Northeast.
Any All-Mountain Intermediate ski with a 75mm-85mm mid-ski width will probably do the job. The Magfire 78Ti is such a ski. It's slightly larger brother the 82Ti would be my choice if I lived in Maine, Northern VT or the Adirondacks where you get a bit deeper snow. The 78Ti will be good for everywhere else. If you are a Pocono skier, stick with a thinner ski.
I'd also look at the Salomon X-Wing 10 and Fischer Watea 78 Railflex. I've skied the X-Wing at a late season demo last year, on boilerplate, and it is pretty good. It gets some chatter in long turns. Aside from that it's a great ski for the East. Apparently the Fischer Watea is even better. A friend of mine skied them at a demo back in December. He said for an intermediate/advanced all-mountain ski they were awesome.
Good Luck!
PS-Everyone knows that Eastern Skiers who regularly need more skill to ski on ice are much beetr skiers than those western skiers who only deal with soft powder.
