In slalom skiing (winter olympics) why are there 2 poles next to each other that they have to go around?
In slalom skiing (winter olympics) why are there 2 poles next to each other that they have to go around? One is red and the other is blue. I understand the concept of gates in slalom, but this does not seem like a gate as they go around both and not through! Any help would be appreciated!!!!
Each gate they have to ski through has two poles, and the colours of the gates alternate. So there's a blue gate, then a red gate, then a blue gate, etc. When they put two gates one right after the other, say a blue gate then a red gate, the bottom pole from the blue gate will be right next to the red gate. As the skier transitions through the gates, they will go around where the two poles are side by side.
At other locations the poles will be farther apart.
